In a game which was a credit to ladies football, Gosport ladies and
Shanklin Ladies Resrves battle out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Sunday at HMS
Collingwood Sportsfield.
Shanklin made the early advances but were rebuked by a solid defence
marshalled by Sheena Odwyer.
Under the sound driving force
Royal Navy player Gemma Stollery, Gopsort soon got into their stride.
Excellent approach play forced the Shanklin keeper into several nervy
moments with the final touch just eluding Charlie Smith up front.
Upon the arrival of
Gosport's 11th player (Delayed due to traffic and make up application)Steph
Mills ,Gosport started to make their pressure pay. Against the run of play
Shanklin won a free kick on the edge of the area and scored with a fine free
kick.
Jenny Dawson's fingertips just
failing to stop the ball finding the back of the net. Unbowed Gosport
attacked Shanklin constantly in the second half and were awarded with a
superb goal.
Steph Mills collected the ball on
the edge of the area and turned sharply to the left and flatfooted the
keeper by firing the ball home to her right hand side. Despite several fine
stops by both
keepers and ever industrious work by all and an offside 'goal' for Gosport
the honours were shared. Gosport look to their final game versus Hayling Utd
next Sunday(20th) at Collingwood to finish on a high with that elusive first
win.
