Gosport Ladies u12 v Lavistock & ford u12

Saturday 15th october

The game started pretty equal with the first half ending 0-0 with not much to actually talk about, but after the break Beth P broke the deadlock with a bit of hard work and determination (and hacking away at the keeper!) by poking the ball through the keepers legs for her 4th goal of the season. Great Goal! After that it was all one way traffic, we took it up a gear and after some great, slick passing from the Gosport midfield and defence Ayesha was able to finish the moves off and tally up her 2nd hat-trick of the season! With three goals that were taken with inch perfect accuracy and not to mention extreme power behind them too which would have left most keepers stranded! Eve had a very good return game, with Beth H, Jaz W and Caitlin all playing excellent at the back and in midfield when they were moved up. And Alice had a good game, who was ready and able every time the ball got past our defence (all 4times!?!). That’s our second win of the season and I reckon if we played every game like we did the second half then we will win most of our games, if not all our games this season!  Well Done girls!

Unfortunately we were knocked out of the cup in the first round by a good Riverside team that beat us 5-1. So this was our first test in the shield, Hedge End are in the league below us but holding their own in a mid table position. Several players could not make the match due to other family commitments, so this left a space for Bronwyn who has only just joined our team to play.

We arrived at the Garrison ground early as we had a kick off time of 12.30 but a start slot of between 12 and 1. Because of so many games in the same place and so many going into extra time our kick off was delayed to 1.15pm not the best preparation for the team as they warmed up, cooled down etc etc.

Once we did kick off the team performed well, we had plenty of possession with our forwards and midfield all doing well. Testing the Tigers keeper early on. 15minutes in there was some good combination play between Chelsea and Hope on the left wing, Hope received a return ball from Chels, and attacked the space behind the Tigers defence coolly slotting her shot low passed the Tigers keeper 1-0

We then had several more chances to extend our lead; Bronwyn had a cross/shot that nearly beat their keeper. Chelsea hit the cross bar and another player (Sorry can’t remember who) pulled off a lovely chip shot that the keeper fumbled and dropped on the goal line only for one of their defenders to clear.

Half time 1-0

The second half was much of the same with plenty more possession and shots, Chelsea hit the post from distance but none of our players could covert her good shot. Then from a corner there was a goalmouth scramble were Hope managed to toe poke her shot through several players’ legs to score her second of the match.2-0

The rest of the match was the same with Gosport having most of the play. The defence worked hard when called into action and enjoyed the chance to push on and join the attack when given the chance.

Abbey had an injury half way through the second half by a heavy challenge but managed to come back on after 5 mins and play on. Rose had quite a quiet time but did well when called into action, and managed to keep her first clean sheet of the season.

Final score 2-0

This was another good display by our team; they played good passing football and were unlucky not to win by least 3 more goals. The whole team worked hard and got a well-deserved result. 8 games played 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses the team is really starting to gel together. 20 games till the end of the season!!

Well done girls and thanks for the support of the parents that watch and transport the team!

The first game back after the Christmas break and unfortunately we never trained this week. Two girls were unable to play due to injury (Sasha gashed knee and Christina twisted knee.)

We all meet up at the Crossley at nine and travelled up to the Garrison ground together. Saints are below us in the league but with their games in hand could be just one point behind us, so we had to be careful.

We started well from the kick off, with some good linked play between Hope, Jenny and Chelsea leading to a couple of good chances. The first goal came from Jenny after receiving a nice through ball from the mid field she travelled in to the area and chipped the Saints goalie, she was unlucky as she managed to get a hand to it but was unable to stop it from going in. 1-0 a great start to 2006.

We maintained the tempo and in truth the defence had quite a quiet time in the first half, although when called into called into action Rose, Abs, Lauren, Emily and Sophie all played their part getting that final challenge in and stopping the attack.

Then Emily D came close when a long range shot from Hope came back of off the bar but was unable to convert the chance (Unlucky mate.)

The second goal came from a corner and was credited to Chelsea. 2-0 at half time.

The second half was much of the same, but the Saints were more aggressive in the challenge and there were some quite heated moments. In our defence we only gave as good as we got, and showed good control when things could of got out of hand. Well done girls for keeping your cool.

As far as the football, we had most of the possession as in the first half, we got the third goal from a long range shot from Chelsea that beat their goalie low at the near post.(Well done.)3-0

The fourth and final goal came from Hope, She did well to get into position so when Chelsea had another got shot rebound off of the keeper she was there to tap it in.4-0

The whole team worked hard today after a long break it was good to see you all had the same commitment as you did at the end of last year. I would like to make a point that I was really impressed with Jenny who ran her heart out and Hope who showed some really good skills, turning and running at the defence.

Well done Girls, more of the same next week against St Francis. Cheers again parents for your continued support with the team.

 Weather  Wet windy and damp.

The team all turned up on time and got well warmed up. We had a full squad with Sasha getting a game as Emily N couldn’t make the match. We were in good spirits after our convincing win over the Saints last week and with St Francis well below us in the league on paper this looked like a match we should win. Unfortunately I had to ref the match but Jen’s dad Angus stood in as coach.

The match started off at a high tempo with Gosport having most of the play, we were very positive with all our strikers having shoots early on. The break through came after about ten minutes with a long distance shot from Chelsea that well beat the St Francis keeper. (The Ref had to re-secure the goal posts!!!) 1-0

After another couple of minutes of more Gosport pressure, we scored again (This goal was disallowed, as the ball was off just before we scored.) Unlucky Chelsea.

The team kept working and the defence had little to do in the first half. Half time 1-0.

The second half was more of the same with Gosport having most of the possession, although St Francis’s strikers did cause us problems at times.

Half way through the second half they managed to equalize through a scrappy goal that slithered under Rose in the wet conditions. 1-1

The team kept their heads up and battled on for the rest of the match, with plenty of shots going in on the St Francis goal we were unlucky not to score. Final score 1-1

Verdict:- This was a good display of passing football with plenty of shoots on target that unfortunately lead to a disappointing result for the girls. They all played well and the difference between the two teams was the St Francis goalie who had an outstanding game.

Unlucky girls keep your heads up, we are still in the chase for a top three position in the league. Keep working as you have so far this season and I sure we will achieve it.

Team==Rose-Abbey-Sasha-Chelsea-Jenny-Hope.

Subs==Emily D-Christina- Sophie.

The team all turned up on time and got well warmed up (Cheers Chris). We had a full squad with Sasha and Emily D getting a game as Emma and Lauren couldn’t make the match.  This was always going to be a tough match against a team who had only lost once this season and won all their other games! At training in the week we concentrated on our defensive game in preparation for the match.

We started the match with three defenders and two midfielders/strikers instead of our normal two two one formation. The strategy seemed to pay off for most of the first half, although we had very few chances on their goal but this was to be expected. We soaked up a lot of  pressure in the first half with the defence and goalie all doing well. On the few occasions when we did break free, the mid field did well and brought saves from the City keeper.

Mid way through the first half City got their goal, it wasn’t pretty. The ball was played long up field by the City keeper, bouncing once into our penalty area. The ball was meet by Rose, Abby Sasha and one of the City strikers at the same moment in time, and unfortunately for us was knocked in off the body of their striker. 0-1to City.

The team played on well and kept their shape. We started to get more of the ball with runs by Jen, Hope and Chelsea all putting City under pressure. Hope had a cracking shot that came off the cross bar and was unlucky not to equalize. Half time 0-1 to City

The second half was more of the same with Gosport soaking up the City attacks for long periods of the play. We had a spell were we had three corners that we failed to convert in to goals. (Maybe something to work on!)

Final score 0-1 to City

Verdict:- This was a good display of defensive football, which is a style that we don’t normally play. In the end it was a disappointing result for the girls to be beaten by a lucky goal. When they had all played how I had asked them.  All I can say is I couldn’t have asked any more of any of you, you all played your socks off. Heads up, on wards and upwards to the next match.

 Hope           3                     6-6                        Kayleigh     3

Chelsea        2                                                  Michelle      1

Emma          1                                                    Steph          1

                                                                           Abbey         1

The game kicked off at 10.30am, the U14’s got off with a good start with a well struck shot from Chelsea scoring the first goal of the game. As the girls settled into there positions the game became more even, making it harder for both sides, the U14’s got though again with a pass from jenny in midfield, to Chelsea who then hit to Hope who scored her first goal making the score 2-0 to U14’s. The U16’s midfield and strike approached the goal, Abbey made an excellent tackle to stop the attack. The game stayed even Hope managed to score another 2 goals making her a hatrick heroin! Chelsea also managed to blast a goal into the net making it 5-0. The U16’s ran a the goal they darted past the midfield. But were stopped  by Lauren who cleared the ball. The U16’s sprinted after the ball and got it quickly, they took on the defence then kayleigh booted the ball at the goal scoring the first goal for the U16’s. She  had only just began almost immediately after scoring her first goal she was back, steph kept the ball and then passed it to kayleigh who scored, making the score line 5-2.

At half time the U14’s manager changed his all of his outfield players for the new u14’s who were u12’s last season. Abbey volunteered to play for the U16’s to even the sides.

As the second half got under way the U16’s managers team talk worked wonders, with the U16’s being far more competitive. The U14’s midfield raced to the goal as they got to they half way line, they were tackled by Abbey she booted the ball into the air, catching the keeper off guard. The ball rolled under the cross bar down the back off the net. What a fluke! But a goals a goal!Well done Abbs! Making it 5-3. Emma and Emily passed well together  and taking the ball up the pitch Emma passed to Christina, but she was beaten with a good tackle by Aimee. The U16’s ran with the ball passing well. They passed to kayleigh, Georgia then ran at her with no fear making a good clearance. The U16’s then took the throw in quickly, steph power blasted it at the goal scoring a fabulous goal. The U14’s soon got back into the U16’s half of the pitch, Christina took a great shot, which was well saved by Sarah. Sarah then kicked the ball down the pitch to Michelle she ran into a good position were she then passed to kayleigh who scored here 3rd goal also making her a hatrick heroin!! The U14’s then had another run but the ball was cleverly taken by Michelle she passed to Aimee who ran the ball past the defence and passed to Michelle who scored with a lovely shot. Making it 6-6, the teams battled on but no further goals were scored. With the under 14’s defending well as they came under a lot of pressure from the under 16’s attackers.

Verdict

This was a good even game with many positive points for both managers. Well done to all the girls who took part.

Gosport ladies U14 v The Worthies U14

After problems getting a team together due to illness and other commitments we set off for the Garrison ground at 11, with a full team. Although Abbey was sub as she is on the way back to full fitness after her ice skating exploits (ha ha ha).

The game got off at it’s normal high speed pace, and Gosport had plenty of the play. There was some very good passing movements up front between Hope Chelsea and Jenny. Where we took the Worthies defence apart.

The main threat to our side came from the Worthies right winger, who had a massive throw on her and managed to launch the ball several times into our penalty area, at high speed. But on each occasion the defence and Rose coped well with the threat, clearing the danger.

After 10 mins or so we got the break through that we deserved, again Chelsea played a lovely through ball to Jen on the right wing. Who composed herself and drilled a low hard cross into the Worthies penalty area, where Hope was waiting unmarked. Hope struck the ball cleanly beating the keeper. 1-0 Gosport.

The rest of the first half was much the same with us having most of the ball. The only fault that we had was that on too many occasions we played one too many passes when we were in on goal and could have had a shot. Half time 1-0

The second half was a lot closer, with the Worthies being far more up for the fight. We on the other hand were a little slow to get started and this lead to the Worthies equalizer. We were slow to close down their left winger and she took a strong shot from out side the area, which went through a crowed of players and beat Rose. 1-1

The team kept working hard and maintained the work rate, Abbeys back held up well although she had to work really hard in defence(Well Done).

Again we took the lead back after about 15 mins of the second half. Chelsea did some clever individual work, turning their players and managing to get a hard low shot off that beat their keeper.2-1 Gosport.

The game continued with all our players doing well, passing shooting and making the challenges count. We had one more scare when the Worthies left winger had a long shot that rattled our cross bar. (But I’m sure Rose had it covered!!!!)

All in all a good result that takes us through to the Shield Semi Final.

Well done all of you, that was probably the best football that I have seen you play.

Thanks again the Parents.

Gosport ladies U14 v Ringwood B U14

 Saturday 25 of Feb 06

Team=Rose-Abbey-Chelsea-Lauren-Jenny-Hope

Subs=Emily N-Georgia-Bronwyn

                                                      Team sponsor Ziffy net

After a two-week break from match’s we took on the Ringwood side that dished out our heaviest defeat of the season (8-1). We had all our girls available for the match, after their return from their adventures skiing and the illness that was going around before the break. Unfortunately for Ringwood the stomach bug has now moved north and they only arrived with five players.

Gosport choose to play into the wind in the first half, and we went straight into attack. Chelsea and Jenny both coming close in the first 10 mins. Ringwood did well and soaked up loads of pressure but really it was all one-way traffic. Gosport had four corners in quick succession but couldn’t convert them.

Hope and Chelsea linked up well to give Chelsea a good chance that she struck well crashing the ball against the cross bar.

When Ringwood did break out of their own half, they did cause us a few problems but on the whole Abbey, Lauren and Emily coped well with the threat. On one occasion Ringwood had a lovely strike from mid way in our half, the ball was hit with power and Rose made a finger tip save pushing the ball on to the cross bar, she then did well gathering the loose ball.

Georgia came on half way through the half and made some good runs against the Ringwood defence bringing some good saves from their keeper.

                                                        Half time 0-0

The second half was much of the same but the Ringwood team were starting to tier as the were now playing into a strong wind. Chelsea had a strike from the kick off and was unlucky not to score. Then Rose made a long clearance that Jenny got on to the end of only to be beaten by their keeper.

Mid way through the half Chelsea scored with a well-hit low shot that beat their keeper. 1-0

This killed off the game really with the Ringwood team tiered; a player down and 1-0 down they lost heart and did not really cause us too many problems. Bronwyn came on and came close to scoring as did Hope.

In the end we beat the third placed team in our league, avenged our worst defeat of the season, got three points and put a smile on the birthday girls face.

All in all a good mornings work. Well done all of you.

Thanks again to the Parents, for the help with the goals.
